February Update, pt. 1

As always seems to be the case, Matt and I haven’t updated for a while. Since a lot has happened since the New Year, I think it might be best to split this update into two posts so it isn’t overly long.

First, we want to thank Mike again for the wonderful pictures he took of the two of us. It was really great to see him and the kids and to meet Chris. We are so lucky to have such a talented photographer in the family!

After visiting Red Oak for New Year’s, Matt and I returned to Arlington to get ready for the inauguration and Matt’s trip to Thailand. We were a little worried about the amount of people that were going to show up for the inauguration, but we did brave the crowds and the cold to see the new president take the oath of office. It was truly an historic occasion, and I am so glad that we were on the Mall for it. We ended up at the base of the Washington Monument, quite a ways away from the Capitol, but we had a great view of a jumbo-tron so we could actually see pretty well. After the swearing in and the speech, we made our way back home (we caught a bus on the way to the Mall, but we had to walk home via the Memorial Bridge). We made it back to the apartment in time to warm up, order a pizza and relax on the couch before the parade even started. We will post some pictures up soon.

The day after the inauguration, Matt left bright and early for 2 and ½ weeks in Thailand. He was on a plane for over 24 hours before landing in Bangkok about 5:30pm on Thursday the 22nd (there is a 12-hour difference between Bangkok and EST, so it was 5:30am here when he landed). I’ll have to let him update you all on the trip, but he seemed to enjoy his time abroad. He also finally seems to be over jet lag from the return trip last week and is getting back into the normal routine.

Next post, Wedding Update!
